My first time.
Encouraged by androkles, I am making my first tentative attempt at an lj entry. Some of you will know a little about me from Ian’s entries and I know several of you reasonably well from following your journals, so hi to Robbie, Bruce, Ondine, Annie and all of Ian’s fabulous cast of online friends. It’s a long time since I did any writing, so I ‘m not so confident that I have much that’s very rivetting to say but my anger at the state of the world and my joy in nature and people’s creativity is bound to prompt some musings as I get the hang of this. I do have a back catalogue, (some of it ancient) of old photos which some of you might find interesting. Now if I can only persuade Ian to show me how to post them, (he says he’s a lousy teacher and believes self-help is best).Oh, well....every journey begins with one step.

Welcome BILL!!!! I'm a fan of Ian's wonderful posts, so I feel like I kinda have met you briefly already. Those shots of you both being swarmed by the Dread Bread eating Sulphur Crested Cockatoos of Centennial Park kept me giggling for a week!*hugs*caitycat in ccccc-cold canberra

Hi Caitycat. Ive been snowed in at 30 below on the Turkish border, but the coldest night of my life was spent at a party in a woolshed in Canberra. You have my sympathy.

Hi Bill! Good to meet you, after all those cameo appearances on androkles. I wondered what I was going to say too, when I first started my lj but it becomes a easier more compulsive thing soon enough...Arek in Singapore
this is great bill! really looking forward to hearing and seeing from you. *i'm already a fan sweetheart*
Greetings Arek, I know you from your explorations under bridges and your sly observations of the colourful folk on Singapore's trains. It's good to be (sort of) up and running.
Hi Ondine, i feel I know you so well. I've been following your extraordinary account of your life for months. We live so close and we've nearly bumped into each other several times, but never met.Spooky, no?
Mwah! Mwah!
Welcome to LJ Bill.I'm sure you'll figure out how it all works, even if Ian doesn't help you. The 'Help & Support' area explains just about everything you need to know.Good luck :-)
Welcome to LiveJournal, Bill! Nice to see you've got your own space now. --Apel in London
Welcome to LJ Bill. I'm sure you'll enjoy the trip.
I'm at a loss for words. So pleased you could finally emerge from the shadowy background into full LJ relief where we can get at you. Welcome!
Welcome!
Welcome Bill!
Hi Alice, thanks for the tip. I have fond (if chilly) memories of my three short visits to Holland. Heaven for a Rembrandt fan.
Hi apel, I'm a fan of your pics of beasts and gardens.
Not everyone gets to start lj with a cast of pre-packed quality friends like all you guys.

Oh joy, a chance to flirt and gossip with the legendary Van.

Thanks for the help Vance. I really enjoy your Drood stories and I hope one day to be able to buy a hefty book called "The Collected Works of Naomi Nash , Volume 1".
Hi Max, I hope everything's sorting out on the home, work, travel front. I admire your ability to cut the cackle and and get to the point. (See, you never know who's reading).
A big Great White North welcome from me too, currently pictureless but soon to be remedied, I hope, following a blast of obscenities in the right direction. But that's not your problem.Yours must be the most celebrated and auspicious entry in to the LJ world in some time. You must be tickled pink. Now tell me - where does the name currawong come from? (I like its exotic ring, but have no clue what it means.)
Welcome to LiveJournal, Bill!-- Kyra in Massachusetts
Thanks Robbie, the currawong is an impressive but rather naughty local bird. You will find him , doubtless, on Google.
Hi Kyra, we have an interest in common, I love Russian liturgical music. I am also, unfortunately , an acrophobe who's knuckles whiten and bowels gurgle at any altitude above 30 feet. Your adventures fill me with terror and admiration.
From one reasonably new cast member to a stage hand that has come from behind the curtain... Welcome! Jo :-D
Why thank-you ma'am. I've never been to your beautiful state, but one day when we're cashed-up we hope to see Perth , the Kimberleys and the sun setting in the sea. Until then, you'll have to be our window on the west.
I'll do my best. I also dont know how to post photos, maybe you can teach me once you "learn"?I'll pencil you guys in for breakfast by the sea (where you cant see the sun rise over the water) for 2007? Jo:-D
yes! we must remedy this near miss situation very soon!
welcome aboard matey!
hi bill! I'm so glad you could join this community! I've been waiting to hear whatever words you have to say, especially after knowing you as the wonderful partner to the incomprable Ian.
Looking forward to knowing more about you first-hand.
Allo!I was just popping in to lj real quick and saw that you have joined us! I offer a warm hug and utter a girly "weeeeeeeee" in lieu of welcome!Annie
Thanks for allowing me to travel vicariously along with you. We have two currawongs who visit our bird table regularly here, one of which has a wing feather permanently askew. They are not the boldest of our winged visitors. More so than the bower birds, butcher birds and finches at this point, less than the little honeyeaters, the turkeys and cockatoos.
I look forward to seeing some of your photos
Welcome to LJ, Bill! I'm looking forward to getting to know you! *Big Furry Bearhug!*

Hi jawn: Getting excited? How go the preparations?
Hi Ednoria: I know we have one tenuous link: you see my surname is Calvert, which might ring a bell with a Maryland girl.
So glad to get a reply from one of my favourite lj-ers. Your brave, cheerful entries always make me feel good. I loved hearing the real-life voice of Blue Spock.
The last time I saw a scrub-turkey, It came striding down the path, stopped, waited till Ian and I seperated and strode purposefully between us, and on down the track. So bold!
When I've taught myself to post pics I think my first lot will be of the Kalash, an obscure but very interesting people from the Hindu Kush. Or if I plead hard enough, Maybe Ian will let me use his camera for something more contemporary.
Furry bearhugs? Yum!I see from a recent post that you prefer verbal abuse to be colourful and original...So much better than the dull repetetive curses of the average young person of today.
all ready to go. except me, don't wanna leave querrelle. Thanks for asking
Sorry Jawn: Used Ian's Fizz by mistake.
Definitely! Up until this year, I had lived my entire life in Prince George's County. Now I am in Montgomery County. My mom knows all 24 counties in Maryland by heart, in alphabetical order no less. She's lived in Maryland her entire life too, as did my Dad. Needless to say I approve of your surname!
Have you read/ heard of a book called "The Sot-Weed Factor" by John Barth? Its a very funny, scandalous and scatalogical novel about Ebenezer Cook , the "laureate' of early Maryland and his run-in with, (among others, ) the Calverts of Maryland. I got more than one dirty snigger from it.
The incomparable Ian is a hard act to follow. I hope I can provide an occasional provocatiom or mildly amusing observation...now let's see,,,,,
...but I will put it on my list of books to read. Sounds fun!
I finally followed one of Ian's links to your journal...Welcome to Live Journal Land. My your time here be enjoyable and enlightening, free of vapor-drama and slow LJ site response times.Warm Regards,Andrewaka Drewan
